Coupons are regular practice on online stores and there’s no reason why your OMG store should be any different! The system is capable of creating coupons that apply to the whole store, you can add multiple coupons to a single store, and you can even create custom coupon codes!
Coupon Types
Coupons can be set up on a store for a Percentage or Flat Dollar amount.
The coupon type can also be added as From the Subtotal or From the Grand Total.
- From the Subtotal deducts the coupon off of the subtotal, before taxes/fees
- From the Grand Total deducts the coupon off of the order Total which includes all taxes/fees
- Free Shipping deducts the total amount of shipping calculated (applies to all shipping methods)
- Note: On Subtotal and Free Shipping Coupons, the sales tax will only be collected for the amount of money that is received for the goods. So, if you reduce the price of your products by 10%, you collect 10% less in sales tax, or if you deduct shipping, you won't collect taxes on that shipping amount.
Create Coupon
Step 1: Click "Edit store".
Step 2: Click on the "Taxes & Fees" tab.
Step 3: Under the Coupons section, click "Add coupon".
Step 4: Select "Create a new Coupon".
Step 5: Name the coupon using the "Name" box.
Step 6: Select a coupon "Type".
Step 7: Enter the desired coupon amount in the "Amount" box.
Step 8: Enter a Threshold if desired. A threshold allows the coupon to only be applied if the subtotal reaches the value you have entered.
Step 9: Enter a coupon code.
Pro-tip: Select the "Coupons can only be used once" checkbox for the coupon to only be available the first time it is used. One person can use one code before it'll go inactive.
Step 10: Click the "Save" button in the upper right corner once all coupon details are entered.
Step 11: The coupon is now added to the store and will appear in the "Coupon" section.
Note: The 3.95% OMG transaction fee is applied to "Flat Rate" coupons only.
A few things to note about coupons and their set up:
- If no coupon code is provided, anyone that is checking out will receive a discount on their order without having to enter a code — this is known as a rebate.
- You can only enter one coupon at checkout, but you can "stack" coupons by not adding a coupon code. For example, you can offer a free shipping coupon with no coupon code, which will auto-apply, then a user can enter a 20% off coupon at checkout to receive both discounts.
- Multiple coupon codes can be included on one coupon. Simply enter each code on a separate line. This is useful for situations when multiple customers are eligible for the same discount amount. This can also be combined with the "Coupons can only be used once" checkbox. Eligible shoppers will then each have a one time use coupon.
- If coupon codes were added to the store, customers will see a coupon box just below the cart total at checkout — this is where the coupon code is added.
- Once the coupon is added to the order it will appear with the name and the deducted amount.
Removing a coupon
Removing a coupon will prevent any customers from applying it at checkout.
Step 1: Click the "X" button located in the upper right corner of the coupon.
Step 2: Click the red "Delete" button on the confirmation popup to remove the coupon.
Step 3: The coupon is no longer available in the store!
