Sometimes your customers need something a little easier to remember than a sixteen-digit numeric code when they're going to your store to redeem a team, school, or company gift via gift card or redemption code. For those times, we have added the ability to add custom, alternate codes to your existing redemption and gift card codes.
Adding a Custom Code
To add a custom code to an existing reward code, there must already be a reward code to modify (custom codes cannot be added during code creation, only after the fact). First open your store editor and navigate to the Rewards tab. Once there, you can click on the "Edit" button on the reward code you want to edit.
Once you're in the editing window, all you need to do is enter the alternate code you'd like, then scroll down and click "Save". Note that you cannot enter a custom code that is already in use on the same store, but you can enter a custom code if it's in use on a different store.
After the new code has been added, it will appear under the original 16-digit code generated in the Rewards tab.
Bulk Uploading Custom Codes
If you have a long list of Custom Codes to create, using the Bulk Upload feature will save you time! Start by going to the Rewards tab and Downloading the CSV Template by clicking the down arrow on Add Redemption Codes. From there, plug in your Custom Codes in column A and fill in the required Amount field in column C. Custom Code, Email, and Code Group fields are optional, and Code Groups must be created before uploading codes with Code Groups associated. For auto-generated 16-digit codes, leave Custom Code blank.
Once you have filled out the CSV Template, return to the Rewards tab, click the down arrow on Add Redemption Codes, and choose Upload Codes From CSV. Then you can locate the CSV file on your device and upload it. Any codes that failed to upload will be sent back to you by email in a CSV so you can correct the errors and re-upload the Error CSV!
FAQ
Can the original 16-digit code still be used at checkout to activate a gift card or to access a redemption store? Yes, while a reward has a custom code, the custom code and the 16-digit code are functionally interchangeable. Either can be used to access a redemption store or to use a gift card at checkout.
Will custom codes appear in my store's reporting? While custom codes will appear in the downloadable .CSV file that can be found in the Rewards tab, they do not appear in any other reporting on the platform. In all other areas of reporting, the code will be identified by either its full 16-digit format, or by the last four digits of that numeric code.
If I import rewards from one store to another, will the custom codes carry over with them? Yes, custom codes are attached to the reward code to which they've been assigned. This means that anywhere the original 16-digit code goes, the custom code follows.
